In addition to our proprietary FLU-ACE® waste heat recovery technology, Thermal Energy also has patented technology and exclusive licensing agreements which play an integral part of our research and development, and marketing activities. These include:

THERMALONOx™

THERMALONOx™ is proposed as a cost effective alternative to existing solutions to effectively reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions at coal-fired power plants and other industrial boiler/burner applications. Thermal Energy’s chief scientist Dr. Raymond Belanger has developed a new system to generate ozone, which is fundamental to the chemical reaction required to remove NOx from the flue gas streams and one of several components required for a complete emission reduction solution.

Thermal Energy filed a provisional patent for the new process in 2006 and finalized the patent filing in 2007.

The Company has embarked on additional research and development work to integrate the new technology into the complete THERMALONOx™ solution. This will include additional bench tests and the establishment of an R&D test site, with the eventual goal of establishing an industrial-scale demonstration site.

DRY-REX™

Thermal Energy acquired ownership of the exclusive worldwide license to the DRY-REX™ technology and the transfer of all DRY-REX™ intellectual property (patent) rights in 2006 from Mabarex, of Montreal.

Dry-Rex™ is a low temperature biomass drying solution which uses waste heat to evaporate water from bark, sludge and other biomass. Using Dry-Rex™ to reduce the moisture, significantly increases the thermal, or heat producing value of biomass, creates new sources of biomass fuels and substantially reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

Dry-Rex™ is already in use in the pulp and paper and forestry sectors in North America. Dry-Rex ™ was a winner of Canada’s energy efficiency Awards in 2003, was awarded the “Phénix 2000” prize as technological innovation of the year and recognized by the Canadian government as one of the most promising technologies to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

GEM® Condensate Return System

Thermal Energy acquired exclusive rights to new energy saving, condensate return technology from Gardner Energy Management of the UK, in 2006.

With the licence, Thermal Energy becomes the exclusive supplier of the GEM® Condensate Return System in Canada and key U.S. markets including Michigan, one of the largest U.S. industrial zones.

The unique GEM® Condensate Return System is designed as a permanent replacement solution for traditional lower efficiency steam traps which have moving components, are prone to frequent failures, have short life expectancies, high maintenance costs and waste energy. The GEM® technology has no moving components to wear out or fail. It delivers permanent energy and maintenance cost reductions while eliminating repair costs.

THERMALOZOMAX™

Thermal Energy acquired distribution and R&D rights for leading ozone generation technology in 2006 from Ozomax Ltd. of Montreal. Thermal Energy sells this technology under the THERMALOZOMAX™ brand.

THERMALOZOMAx™ can be used in a wide variety of commercial & industrial applications including large scale water purification, all forms of waste water treatment, and treatment of air streams including hazardous air pollutants. Potential customers include pulp and paper mills, municipal drinking water and waste water treatment plants, petrochemical manufacturers, the mining industry, food and beverage manufacturers, hospitals, laundries, hotels and resort complexes.

In addition to the traditional uses of the THERMALOZOMAx™ technology developed Thermal Energy has exclusivity to perform research with the Ozomax ozone technologies in flue gases in conjunction with the scrubbing of NOx and Mercury recovery from industrial boiler and power generation applications. Upon the successful demonstration of the technology for this application, Thermal Energy has exclusive rights to the Ozomax product line for this technology application.
