Boiler Plant Condensing Heat Recovery System

A Condenser Heat Recovery System was installed, reducing its boiler exhaust temperature in the flue from 160°C to 23°C. This has resulted in improved boiler efficiency from 77% to 86%.

The boiler feed water also increased from 20°C to 55/60°C. This massive reduction in energy has resulted in extrapolated savings of approximately £40,000 per year and a reduced carbon footprint of 145 tonnes of carbon.

The Condensing Heat Recovery System recovers waste heat energy from the flue gas exhaust of two steam boilers. The recovered “free” energy is utilised for boiler feed water pre-heating and is extended in the winter to space heating.

The system was designed using technology developed during the last oil crisis. The technology has since been refined and improved, resulting in a state-of-the-art system installed at this site. The project was a total turn-key system - installed and commissioned prior to project handover.
