Maximising the Impact of your Carbon Reduction Investments
TEI combines advanced global engineering expertise with a proprietary portfolio of high-efficiency technologies and local turn-key delivery teams. This results in practical, proven solutions that are best aligned with your site, supported by experienced teams who understand real industrial operating conditions.
We apply an efficiency-first methodology that targets avoidable energy loss and its associated costs, achieving rapid payback and significant impact without the disruption of major system changes. This provides measurable improvement from the outset whilst maintaining flexibility for future development.

Improving steam system efficiency is the most effective first step for reducing fuel use, operating costs and carbon emissions.
Industrial steam systems are well-established, yet they can still lose up to 45% of their energy through distribution losses, failed traps and unrecovered latent heat. These inefficiencies increase fuel demand, operating cost and carbon emissions.
By addressing these readily recoverable losses, we aim to increase a system’s efficiency output from 55% up to 95%. These improvements can be implemented immediately, without requiring major infrastructure changes or restricting future decarbonisation pathways.

Building from an efficient steam system, recovered heat can be integrated with technologies such as FreeSteaming™ mechanical vapour recompression (MVR) or high-performance heat pumps to regenerate latent heat as usable steam or hot water, achieving deeper efficiency gains where required.
This also forms the foundation for efficient hot water infrastructure, lowering the cost and complexity of future conversion where needed and providing a scalable route towards reduced steam demand or full de-steaming. This approach provides the flexibility to progress in line with operational priorities.

Proprietary Solutions,
Designed for Industrial Realities
Designed specifically for industrial applications, these proven and repeatable solutions address the key sources of energy loss across steam, heat recovery, and hot water systems, providing reliable, high-performance options for sites seeking measurable operational and carbon reductions.
Industrial Heat Recovery
Boiler exhausts, dryers and other process streams release substantial recoverable heat, often equivalent to 15–20% of total fuel consumption. TEI’s industrial heat recovery systems capture this energy and return it to the process, reducing stack losses and significantly lowering fuel use, operating costs and carbon emissions.
GEM™ Steam Traps
A proven, permanent solution to steam distribution and steam trap losses, GEM can permanently reduce steam-related fuel use and carbon emissions by around 20% when properly integrated, while also improving safety and significantly lowering maintenance requirements.
Hot Water and De-steaming
By using recovered heat as the primary energy source, TEI’s high-efficiency hot water and de-steaming technologies deliver reliable hot water generation with lower fuel demand and operating cost, while supporting a staged and practical transition away from steam where required. Advanced options, including FreeSteaming™ MVR and high-performance heat pumps, further enhance efficiency by regenerating latent heat as usable hot water or steam.
Trusted Engineering and Assured Delivery
TEI applies a clear, evidence-led process to help organisations make informed decisions about how they generate, distribute and use heat. Thermal Energy International’s role is to help define the goal, present viable options and build a pathway that makes both economic and carbon sense. This structured method ensures every project is grounded in robust analysis, aligned with operational needs and delivered with engineering certainty.
Set clear strategic objectives
Every partnership with our customers begins with clarity on what you are trying to achieve. Aligning corporate sustainability goals with site realities ensures the project will be viable both technically viable and commercially justified.
Understand process requirements
We carry out detailed thermal mapping and process assessments, generate thermal Sankey diagrams and apply Pinch principles to understand how heat is generated, distributed and used across boilers, distribution networks and steam traps. This includes identifying where energy is lost, including latent heat losses that are often overlooked. The findings provide a robust basis for selecting the most effective improvement options.
Present viable options
We assess the full range of suitable options, from targeted efficiency improvements to partial or full de-steaming, hot water conversion or electrification. Each route is evaluated for technical performance, energy impact, cost effectiveness and carbon benefits to support confident decision making.
We get projects done
Where a turn-key solution is appropriate, TEI manages full project delivery with fixed pricing, guaranteed performance and minimal disruption to site operations. When equipment supply is the preferred route, we provide the required technology alongside detailed specification and commissioning support. In all cases, projects are executed with clear scope, defined outcomes, and reliable performance assurance.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Thermal Energy International's solutions provide practical, immediate steps towards lower carbon operation by reducing energy demand at source. By applying high-efficiency technologies where they deliver the greatest impact and integrating additional measures when appropriate, projects achieve measurable carbon reductions while maintaining flexibility for future system development. This approach ensures that sites can incorporate new low-carbon technologies as strategies and capabilities evolve.
-
Energy and carbon savings are verified against a robust baseline established at the start of each project, using a detailed assessment of existing energy use, steam demand and boiler performance. Reductions in fuel consumption, steam losses and greenhouse gas emissions are confirmed through operating data, utility records and targeted measurement where required.
Every project is supported by a performance guarantee that provides assurance of verified savings and delivery without disruption to critical operations. For GEM™ steam traps, this includes a ten-year no-fail performance guarantee.
-
TEI’s solutions are based on technologies with long records of reliable industrial operation and are designed and constructed to recognised engineering standards. Each project begins with a detailed, evidence-led assessment to quantify recoverable energy and determine the most effective application. Delivery follows established site and industry requirements and is supported by performance guarantees that provide assurance of measurable, reliable outcomes.
-
Yes. Thermal Energy International's technologies are engineered to integrate with both new and existing equipment, enabling substantial efficiency gains without the need to replace core assets. GEM™ steam traps are sized for individual applications, and our heat recovery and hot water solutions can be integrated across a wide range of existing installations, often avoiding capital intensive equipment upgrades.
-
Thermal Energy International offers a flexible delivery model, providing either full turn-key execution or major-equipment supply depending on site needs. Turn-key delivery is often preferred where resources are limited, as TEI manages the engineering, installation and performance assurance with single-point responsibility. For sites with available internal personnel who wish to minimise external costs, equipment-only supply can be an effective alternative. In all cases, collaboration with site teams remains essential to ensure safe and efficient delivery.
Sustainability that pays for itself.
