A FLU-ACE waste heat recovery system was implemented at the Hospital to reduce natural gas use and greenhouse gas emissions by 20%. The system was supplied as part of a major energy reduction project at all four hospitals in the healthcare group. The FLU-ACE system accounted for more than one-third of the energy savings and more than half of the emission reductions to be derived from the £2.5 million dollar energy reduction project.
The FLU-ACE system recovers waste heat energy from the flue gas exhaust of three steam boilers. In addition to removing harmful pollutants, the recovered ”free” energy is utilized for space heating and boiler combustion air preheating. The FLU-ACE provided an attractive return on investment by significantly reducing fuel consumption and generating certifiable emissions credits.

Since the implementation of the FLU-ACE system, the hospital site has reduced the consumption of natural gas by 20% generating an estimated annual saving in excess of £98,000. Greenhouse gas emissions have also been reduced by at least 20% including 704 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2 ), the equivalent of permanently removing more than 170 cars from local roads.
