In celebration of International Women in Engineering Day 2021, TEI’s female engineers share their engineering heroes in keeping with the theme of its eighth annual celebration. What is International Women in Engineering Day (INWED)?
International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) is an annual celebration of women in engineering, celebrated annually on 23rd June, by The Women’s Engineering Society (WES). INWED aims not only to raise the profile of women in engineering, but to encourage women and girls into the industry with a focus on the amazing career opportunities available. Who are the Women’s Engineering Society (WES)? The Women’s Engineering Society (WES) is an English charity that supports women in engineering to fulfil their potential and support the engineering industry to be inclusive. Gender Disparity in Engineering A report published by Engineering UK identified that just 12% of those working in engineering are female, compared to 47% of the overall UK workforce and 21.8% in the engineering sector. While women remain severely underrepresented in engineering, over 25% of TEI’s engineering workforce are female and therefore over double the industry standard.
