A division of this group develops projects to improve energy efficiency and achieve cost savings for Group plants and for external companies. Aware of their interest in energy saving, Thermal Energy International (TEI) organised a presentation of GEM Venturi steam traps for the company’s technicians.
Following a subsequent meeting, the customer decided to carry out a test by replacing an inverted bucket steam trap, which normally needs to be replaced every 12 months, with a correctly sized GEM steam trap. Mechanical steam traps often fail, but in a 24 hour per day process this cannot be tolerated due to the significant loss of steam.
The test, carried out on a small oven operating with steam at 9 barg pressure, was monitored using a steam flow meter over a 12 month period to verify consumption. This test demonstrated not only that GEM is extremely reliable, but also achieved a 15% reduction in steam consumption.
Following the positive test results, the local TEI representative carried out site surveys at other Group plants in Italy and Poland.
In addition to replacing damaged traditional steam traps with GEM models, the customer has ensured that GEM Venturi steam traps are installed in new Group plants and during planned maintenance. To date, more than 150 GEM steam traps have been installed across Italy, Germany and Ireland.
GEM steam traps have solved our problem of regulation and eliminated steam losses. We verified their performance and reliability and confirmed the results promised during the initial presentation. We also appreciate the fact that TEI provides a 10 year guarantee on GEM steam traps and offers fast and efficient technical and commercial support. - Project Manager
